Resolutions...well, at least Plans
Hi, everyone; I haven't been reading LJ lately, so I hope most folks had great holidays and that there was very little cause for sadness. My Christmas was wonderful, despite it requiring a good bit of setup work that morning and afternoon; my sister and her husband came over, and although we had very little in the way of gifts to exchange, we had a wonderful time together as a family, complete with great food and some fun gaming. I also had the chance to attend a couple of excellent parties between Christmas and New Years', and gaming featured prominently in those as well. (I probably spent too much on board and card games when I was collecting them, but doggone it, they've brought me and my friends a lot of happiness.)
I have my plane tickets for GAFilk. I'll be arriving early Friday afternoon and leaving around 9:30 Sunday night. I hope
thatcrazycajun's offer of crash space at his place is still good, because I'm counting on it. :-/ (Matt, I tried emailing you at the last address I had for you, but received no reply; please email me at mrgoodwraith [at] yahoo [dawt] com so we can get this sorted out.) Looking forward to seeing a number of you there!
Unfortunately, it's not going to be possible for me to attend Conflikt. The PA Dept. of Labor still hasn't told me whether I'm docked a week of Unemployment Comp or not, and more importantly it's becoming abundantly clear that despite a bachelor's degree and fifteen years' experience, I don't have what employers in this area are looking for. Despite filing dozens and dozens of applications, I haven't had so much as a phone interview since November. I can only conclude that I need to relocate and/or get additional training or education and/or look into starting a new business and/or get very serious about re-establishing a client base for freelance work, and despite how bad I'd like to be there, that doesn't leave me the time or money for a West Coast convention now. I want to thank everyone who offered to help with in-state transportation, roomshares, etc. for Conflikt; hopefully I can make it in some future year. I'll miss you all terribly! I hope the con is a smash hit!
All my best wishes to everyone for a truly marvelous 2008!
P.S. Now that we have about a quarter of it written, I guess I can tell you what the musical travesty for Confluence 2008 will be: "The Girl in the Firefly," a mashup of the "Girl in the Fireplace" episode of "Doctor Who" and "Firefly/Serenity" using the music from "Annie Get Your Gun." Be afraid...I am! :-D
