1. Does the makeup of the Best Song category indicate that the proportion of nominations coming from European filk fen continues to rise, or that the nominations for Best Song were so utterly fragmented that small groups of unified nominators could get their choices on the ballot? Or maybe both are partially true?
2. OK, we threw out the original guidance for the Best Comedy category; no problem, I can live with that. But while these songs are terrific, fun, amusing, and catchy...I have to say that they seem to have been chosen primarily for their shtick value -- more because their *performances tend to be memorable* than for the quality of the songs themselves.
Which leads me to...
3. The dementia artists continue to get no love from us old-skool filkers; none at all. With the (conveniently definitionally ignored) Best Comedy category in play, this was our best opportunity in years to give some props to fellow fen and frequent convention performers such as Luke Ski (
